|ONLF commanders in Ogaden say killed 8 Ethiopian Military officers.10 January 2012.(Ogadentoday Press)– A report released by the ONLF, Ogaden National Liberation Front commanders in Ogaden said that they have killed Eight Ethiopian military officers in Ogaden.
ONLF troops attacked a military camp located an outskirt of Kebribayah district in Jigjiga Zone, the report said.
The officers claimed that they have attacked the camp on 6 January 2013 and killed 47 Ethiopian troops meanwhile they wounded 65 others.
Local residents confirmed to Ogadentoday Press the clashes.
The ONLF officers said that they have seen on the scene of 8 Ethiopian high ranking military officers dead.
The report says that ONLF have taken military weapons and ammunition from the Camp and there is military mobilization in the area, and local people fled from the area, local source say there is a high tension in the area.
The news couldn’t be verified by an independent source since the media is restricted in Ogaden and Journalists are not allowed to operate in Ogaden Region.
ONLF declined to comment their loss, but ONLF officer told Ogadentoday Press that some of their troops are killed, this was a coordinated attack in the midnight and 350 of our forces carried out the attack.
Last night, an Ethiopian Rebel Group, Ethiopian Unity and Freedom Force (EUFF) said that they have killed members Ethiopian ruling party.
ONLF leaders including the Chairman Mohamed Omar Osman and the group’s officials are visiting currently to USA, Germany and South Africa.
Ogaden Region is believed to be founded Billions of oil Barrels and Natural Gas, and the strategy outlet Port is Berbera in Somaliland Administration where the oil can be exported.
On last month, ONLF army launched a cleaning operation against the Addis Ababa Troops and what they called, their puppets administration in Ogaden Region.
On last month, 62 Ethiopian military troops along side with A Liyu Police, paramilitary forces of Somalia Regional State have been gunned down..
The government runs military operations and blocks food aid delivery and trade as well as restriction of humanitarian access and operations.
Thousands of Somali Ogaden refugee fled to Kenya since 2007, and seek International Refugee protection in Kenya.
On October, Ethiopia and ONLF peace talks mediated by the Kenyan Government installed after, the government has put on a precondition to accept ONLF, the Ethiopian Federal constitution.
ONLF refused and said it is a matter of Ogaden people who will vote for the Referendum.
Last Month, Ethiopia government said that group of ONLF wants to accept the constitution but ONLF issued a statement and said, “There are no on-going talks between ONLF and the Ethiopian government currently. However, the Ethiopian regime is peddling that it is holding peace talks in Addis Ababa with what they portray as Ogaden National Liberation Front by using a junior defector, from ONLF Foreign Office, called Abdinur Abdullahi, whom it elevated to the rank of ONLF Executive Committee member. This practice was done two years ago with Salahdin Maow, a man who was expelled from the organization, but still the Ethiopian regime paraded him in front of the international media and claimed that he represented a major ONLF faction”
Majority of Ogaden people in Diaspora and in the country supports ONLF.
The ONLF is fighting for the Independence of Ogaden Region in Ethiopia, where the Britain has handed over Ogaden into Ethiopia.
